Join Reed McLaren of The Sustainable Garment and local charity Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI as they celebrate National Secondhand Wardrobe Day with a free Clothing Swap event. Reed will be on hand to guide participants on sustainable clothing care practices that can breathe new life into all of those favorite swap finds, and can book one-on-one consultations for those who want to delve deeper. To participate in the swap participants may bring gently used articles, and for all other items in the home (the stained, ripped, no longer usable), participants can also bag them up and donate for recycling, saving them from the landfill while helping support charitable efforts! As a Textile Sustainability Pioneer, helping people to responsibly part with their textiles is an important part of Reed’s mission, and she has long been an advocate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI and their efforts to collect and divert textile waste from the landfill. All remaining items will be collected by Big Brothers Big Sisters at the end of the event to support their organization's mission.
