Natural Awakenings Greater Boston - Rhode Island

Harmonious Living

I learned a new word the other day after stumbling upon a podcast a few months ago. Naturally, the algorithm kept feeding me more content from nuclear physicist Thomas Campbell, who was the guest of the show. Tom’s work focuses heavily on consciousness; not just human consciousness, but consciousness as the fundamental nature of reality itself, including the energy we’re made of and immersed in.

Anyway, the new word I learned was “entropy,” which as described by Wikipedia is “a scientific concept, most commonly associated with states of disorder, randomness or uncertainty.”

For humans, that concept translates into the balance, or lack thereof, we experience in our daily lives. High entropy shows up as reactivity, disconnection from others or ourselves, self-centeredness, poor habits, no clear direction, or a victim mindset that always blames outside forces.

Conversely, lower entropy allows us to self-correct quickly in emotional situations, take ownership of our choices, align our thoughts, feelings and actions, and feel compassion and calm even under stress.

After learning this and doing some self-reflection, I’ve started noticing how easily I can be jarred into negative, high-entropy states. The first time I really caught myself, I had to laugh out loud. Alone in my car, driving through one of the many roundabouts near my home, I was literally screaming at another driver who was completely oblivious to my angry toddler response to their cluelessness (at least based on my interpretation) of what “yield” means in a traffic circle!

Like most, I seek peace and harmony, which is why I love this edition so much. I’ve had my share of high-entropy experiences. Thankfully, I’ve got a few tools in my spiritual and emotional toolbox that help me bounce back to center in just a breath or two, when I make that conscious choice to feel differently.

One of those tools is featured in our News Briefs this month. You can get a taste of it for free from Eleanor Mann and Emma Johnston at The Reconnected with their "I AM" 5-Day Nervous System Reset.

In full disclosure, the link is an affiliate link. But I share it because it works for me, and it might help you too.

I hope this edition supports you in some way and helps you experience more peace and harmony in your life as we all bounce around with loved ones and strangers alike on this wildly diverse planet!

Peace,
