Sustainable Style Meets Community Giving

Reed McLaren
Celebrating National Secondhand Wardrobe Day, The Sustainable Garment and Tapestry Home Interiors (TSGTHI) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island (BBBS-RI) will team up to present a Clothing Swap—Connect and Care—from 5 to 7 p.m. on August 25, 2025, in Providence, Rhode Island. Led by Reed McLaren, a textile sustainability consultant with TSGTHI, attendees will learn how to care for their clothes with intention while supporting the community.
McLaren will guide participants on sustainable clothing care practices that can breathe new life into all of those favorite swap finds, and will be available to book one-on-one virtual or in-home consultations for those that want to delve deeper. Participants may bring gently used articles of all seasons, and for all other items in the home that may be stained, worn out or otherwise no longer usable, participants can also bag them up and donate for recycling, saving them from the landfill while helping support charitable efforts.
Along with being a pioneer in the field, McLaren has been a longtime advocate of BBBS-RI and their efforts to collect and divert textile waste from the landfill. All remaining items will be collected by BBBS-RI at the end of the event to support the organization’s mission.
Free admission. Location: 188 Valley St., Ste. 125,
Community Room, Providence, RI. For more information, email [email protected] or visit TheSustainableGarment.com, TapestryHomeInteriors.com or bigsri.org. The individual clothing care
consultations with McLaren can be arranged by visiting either of the two
company websites.
