The Power of Gratitude, Presence and Joy
As we come to the end of a year that has felt tumultuous for many, with political, social and global unrest dominating our newsfeeds, I’m reminded that my responsibility is to give my attention to the good I can do and the joy I can help create right where I am. My hope and intention is to expand ripples of goodness throughout our community by offering potential pathways to optimal health and healing through these pages.
For December, our theme, “Embrace Joy,” brings a gentle reminder that by embracing and focusing more attention on the good stuff we see around us, we naturally open to receive more and more of that good.
Just like the invisible power of electricity as it’s harnessed through a power cord, that invisible attracting energy which is demonstrated through our most dominant thoughts and words, begins to move through our lives as a steady current, drawing in experiences that reflect and amplify whatever we’ve chosen to nurture through thought.
This month’s feature story by Hannah Tytus, “Cultivating Joy: How Movement, Gratitude and Connection Transform Our Lives,” explores simple, uplifting ways to feel more alive from the inside out. Through movement, gratitude and connection, it shows how joy can be renewed, even in challenging times.
Our Healthy Kids department invites families to find delight in reconnecting with their roots. In “Unwrapping the Past,” Christina Connors shares simple, meaningful ways to help children discover the joy and grounding that can come from knowing where they come from.
As we step into the new year, may we each carry forward the intention to notice the good, nurture what lights us up and share that light generously with those around us. Joy doesn’t ask for perfection; it simply asks for our presence.
My wish for you and your loved ones is that the cold winter months ahead offer moments of genuine connection, renewed gratitude and simple delights that remind you of the good we can all cultivate from within.
Thank you for being part of this community and for all the ways you help brighten our shared world.
Peace,
