Learn About Herbs in Medicinal Plant Walk

Ava Long, an adjunct professor with the Boston School of Herbal Studies, will lead a Medicinal Plant Walk from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on June 6 at the Kimberly Ann Rock Park Memorial Complex, in East Providence, Rhode Island. Attendees will learn about “weeds” or plants that they may have never thought much about and learn how to make tinctures out of them.

By going on an herbal walk with this trained local herbal professor, participants will find out how to identify herbs growing in the area, the benefits of herbs, the traditional history of herbs, how to use them and more. It’s encouraged to bring a basket to harvest herbs.

“Medicinal plants are everywhere—in our backyards, along the streets we walk and in open spaces,” says Long. “Many weeds have medicinal value and have been used by our ancestors for thousands of years for food and medicine. We will look at plants ranging from the familiar such as dandelion, to the less well known: Japanese knotweed, goldenrod and ground ivy. We will discuss which parts of the plants are used medicinally and how they nourish us and support health. Join us for an informative walk! You'll never look at weeds in the same way again!"

Cost: $25 for adults, free for children. Location: 220 Ferris Ave., Rumford, RI. For more information or to register, call 207-542-4735, email [email protected] or visit BostonHerbalStudies.com
