It’s All About The Boys!

Kicking it off with our feature story, “The Facts About Low Testosterone: What Every Man Should Know” by Marlaina Donato, we explore why the booming testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) market may be solving the wrong problem. Sleep, stress, gut health and lifestyle choices are often the real culprits. With the right interventions, proper lab work and some honest lifestyle adjustments, most men can restore hormonal balance naturally, without the considerable risks that come with TRT.

In our Healthy Kids Department, author Christina Connors takes on a topic that many parents are quietly losing sleep over. In “Developing Minds in a Digital World: Helping Boys Navigate What They Are Not Ready to See,” she explores how early, unfiltered internet exposure is shaping the way boys understand identity, relationships and masculinity, often long before they have the emotional tools to process what they’re seeing. The encouraging takeaway is that it’s never too late to open the conversation, and how we respond matters far more than we might think.

And speaking of losing sleep, Hannah Tytus makes the case in ‘Sleep Health for Men: Foundational Habits for a Better Life,’ that poor sleep isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s quietly accelerating aging, tanking testosterone, straining relationships and putting men behind the wheel impaired. It turns out that small, intentional changes to your light environment and sleep schedule can make a meaningful difference.

As for the man in my life, Cooper, my 9-pound Yorkie, turns a happy, healthy 15 on the 23rd. And Dr. Ruth Roberts' article “When Dogs Forget: A Holistic Guide to Canine Cognitive Health,” hits close to home. While CoopetyCoop is still remarkably vibrant and puppy-like, as evidenced by his three-foot vertical leaps at the door when the mail carrier, delivery person or a visitor shows up, he’s clearly getting hard of hearing.

I must admit, it tugs my heart a bit that he mostly no longer greets me at the door. Instead, he’s usually curled up blissfully unaware and snoozing when I come home. My dismay quickly turns the moment he wakes up and spots me and I’m greeted like I’ve just returned from a year on sabbatical. I’m grateful for every one of those exuberant reunions, as they’re the same whether I’ve been gone five minutes or five hours. Roberts' holistic approach to keeping our senior dogs healthy, engaged and connected gives me both comfort and a game plan as my little guy ages.

Happy Summer to all and as always, we hope you find some value in our pages, enough to share us with a friend!
