Menstrual cycle irregularity is more than just an inconvenience. It can be a sign of underlying hormonal, metabolic or reproductive issues that deserve attention and care. Whether the issues may be PCOS, endometriosis or simply trying to optimize the hormonal health, understanding the menstrual cycle and how to support it is essential.

The menstrual cycle is a series of hormonal and physiological changes a woman’s body undergoes each month. It’s regulated by a delicate balance of hormones, particularly estrogen, progesterone, luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. A normal menstrual cycle typically lasts between 21 to 35 days, with menstruation occurring for three to seven days. Ovulation usually occurs mid-cycle, around day 14 in a 28-day cycle. Key signs of a healthy cycle include predictable cycle length, moderate flow, minimal pain or discomfort and regular ovulation.

An abnormal menstrual cycle refers to changes in timing, frequency or flow. This can include missed periods, frequent or infrequent periods, heavy or prolonged bleeding or painful periods.  These often signal deeper imbalances, especially related to hormones and insulin sensitivity.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)—characterized by elevated androgens, irregular or absent ovulation and insulin resistance, acne, hair thinning, weight gain and infertility—is one condition that contributes to menstrual irregularity. Endometriosis, during which the uterine lining tissue grows outside the uterus, is another condition that causes pain, inflammation, irregular bleeding, painful cycles and fertility challenges.

InosiCare is a nutritional supplement developed by Ortho Molecular Products designed to support metabolic, hormonal and gut health. Studies have shown that its ingredients Myo-Insositol and D-Chiro Inositol (40 to 1 ratio) mimic the natural plasma ration of Myo and D-Chiro found in healthy women. InosiCare supports insulin sensitivity, ovarian function, androgen balance and egg quality. Clinical studies show improved ovulation and reduced PCOS symptoms with this ratio. Additionally, ingredients such as Solnul (resistant potato starch), which acts as a prebiotic, promotes a healthier gut microbiome and chromium enhances insulin receptor activity, helping stabilize blood sugar levels and reduce cravings. Zinc supports androgen regulation, immune health and reproductive function.

InosiCare also supports GLP-1 production (via Akkermansia), which may improve insulin response and hormonal signaling. It has been shown to reduce excess testosterone levels in women with PCOS. It also may benefit women with metabolic syndrome.

When this combination has been used, improved cycle regularity, better androgen balance, improved insulin response and improved fertility outcomes have been reported.

Hormonal irregularity isn’t something to ignore; it’s the body’s way of asking for support.  Whether dealing with PCOS, endometriosis or unexplained menstrual changes, restoring metabolic and hormonal balance is foundational.
